Zimbabwe cheetahs

Every cheetah has a unique coat pattern which enables us to identify and follow individual cheetahs via the pictures people send us. We have so far identified 87 individual cheetah. The main cheetah populations in Zimbabwe are found in the Hwange Area, the Zambezi Valley and the Lowveld. There are several other areas where cheetahs pass through or are resident in small numbers.

Hwange Area

In this area cheetahs can be found in Hwange National Park, the Matetsi Safari Area up to the Zambezi National Park. We have so far been able to identify 42 individual cheetahs in this area. If you would like to look for cheetahs in Hwange National Park you have the best chance around Main Camp and Kennedy.

The Lowveld

Main cheetah populations can be found in the private conservancies (Bubye, Save, Malilangwe, Nuanetsi) and in Gonarezhou National Park. We have so far identified 29 individual cheetahs in the Lowveld. In Gonarezhou National Park you have the best chance to see cheetahs around Chilojo Cliffs.

Zambezi Valley

Within the Zambezi Valley, cheetahs can be found in Matusadona and Manapools National Park. Within Matusadona there are 3 cheetahs remaining. In Manapools we have so far identified 9 cheetahs. You have a good chance to see cheetahs along the Ruckomechi river and Chitake spring.
